Born in Hasselt in 1987, Joyce Kuipers received her first cello lessons from Rudy Froyen at the Municipal Conservatory in Hasselt.
She continued her studies at the Leuven Conservatory, where she studied cello with Steven Caeyers. She began her advanced cello studies with France Springuel at the Antwerp Conservatory and completed her Master's degree with great distinction under the guidance of J Justus Grimm at the same institution.
Joyce also attended various masterclasses in cello and chamber music with artists and ensembles such as Jean-Guihen Queyras, Roel Dieltiens, Maria Kliegel, Louis Claret, Ilya Laporev, Viviane Spanoghe, Midori Seiler, Quartetto Casals, the Altenberg Trio Wien, the Oxalys ensemble and the Spiegel String Quartet.
Since 2017, Joyce has been a member of the Flanders Symphony Orchestra.
As a freelance orchestral musician, she regularly performs in productions with groups such as Le Concert Olympique, the National Orchestra of Belgium, and Z V E Z D O L I K I.
She also serves as principal cellist for the Zomeropera Alden Biesen orchestra, working under internationally renowned conductors including Jaap van Zweden, René Jacobs, Jos van Immerseel, Martyn Brabbins, and John Adams.
Chamber music is also close to her heart; she was the cellist for the harp trio Pétillant'Semble—performing both at home and abroad—and was a member of the Blindman collective.
She is a laureate of the Dexia Axion Competition and received the STROOM grant, a cultural subsidy for promising talent awarded by the province of Limburg..
