Anna Popil, violin
Anna was born on 6th September 1998 in Lviv (Ukraine), in the family of professional musicians. At the age of 5 years old Anna went to a specialized music school and began studying piano with Lidia Krych. At the age of 10 years old Anna started to study the violin and successfully graduated in 2015 following violin class of Maria Futorska-Hereha.
In the same year (2015) Anna passed her entrance exams with excellent marks to Lviv Academy of Music (Ukraine).
She studied 4 years with Igor Pylatiuk and reached bachelor. While studying, Anna took part in a lot of International Competitions, masterclasses, festivals and has performed solo, in chamber music ensembles, with orchestras in Ukraine, Poland, Italy and Slovakia.
Anna is a prizewinner of the competitions in Ukraine (Chamber music competition in Lviv, 2012, International festival-competition of performing arts "Khortytsia Chords" in Zaporizhia, 2015, Second International Contest-Festival of Arts "Stankovych fest" in Zakarpattia, 2018), Poland (Competition “Z etiudą za pan brat” in Lublin, 2008), Slovakia (International competition of Bohdan Warchal „Talents for Europe”, 2010).
From 2019 to 2021, she studied at the Antwerp Conservatory with Prof. Tatiana Samouil and continued her studies under her guidance at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels from 2021 to 2024.
During her studies in Belgium Anna has performed solo (She has won an audition to perform Arvo Part's 'Fratres' with a student orchestra of Antwerpen; performed Mendelssohn double concerto with her brother Markiyan with Chapelle Musicale de Tournai; was selected as a finalist of Vieuxtemps international violin competition), in chamber music groups (with Tatiana Samouil, Razvan Popovici, Justus Grimm, Diana Ketler, Benjamin Braude, Paul de Clerk, Mark Drobinsky and Igor Kirichenko), in orchestras (with La Monnaie, Belgian National orchestra, Brussels Philharmonic, Opera Ballet Vlaanderen, MuCH Ensemble, Young Belgian Strings, Virago orchestra, Arte Amanti Chamber orchestra, L’Ensemble Orchestral Européen, Frascati Symphonic and The Romantics | Belgian Chamber Orchestra).
She also took part in masterclasses (with Michaela Martin, Giovanni Barbato, Benjamin Braude) and festivals such as Festival «Rencontres musicales de Léotoing» (summer 2021), Ravel Festival in Saint-Jean-de-Luz (summer 2021). In April 2023 Anna won the audition to be an Academist of La Monnaie De Munt and Belgian National Orchestra.
Anna is playing on Marc Paquin violin that she was able to purchase thanks to winning the grant of the foundation “L’Instrument de Musicien”. She is a founding member of the Astari String Quartet and Zvezdoliki Ensemble
